Centre Profile: — Volunteership in Moscow
I worked for three and a half months in the translation department at Language Link and found it a very useful experience, both linguistically and professionally. Although everyone in the office speaks very good English, they all kept to their promise to speak Russian to me at all times. A real effort was made to include me in the workings of the office and also to help me constantly develop my lingusitic skills in Russian, both written and spoken.
The range of work that I was given to do was interesting and challenging and it was good to have the experience of working with different styles of language. I was given varied translations to do and help was always there if I needed it. On the whole, I always felt encouraged in what I was doing and found the help and feedback I received constructive.
The atmosphere in the office was always friendly and I enjoyed working there. It has given me a valuable insight into professional translating, which, as a modern languages student, I have always considered as a career. It has also helped me to develop professional, personal and linguistic skills.
All in all, it has been a useful and interesting experience which I will always appreciate.
Yours sincerely,
