To Be and To Have

To be: The link verb to be is not used as a rule in the presnt tense in Russian:

He good boy.
They no nice.

In all tenses Russians experience difficulties in the use of the there is construction

Is table in room?
Many tables are in room, yes?

When the there is constuction has been learnt, Russian may still confuse it with the use of it as a dummy subject.

There is hot here, is it?
it is very good stereo in room

To have: Russian learners can experience difficulty in making the association between the English verb to have and its russian equivalent the u menya est construction (literally'at me is').

At beginner level, mistakes are often made in the use of has/ have.

He have book.
